How to read this result
Three useful checks, kept deliberately short.
A business earns RM25,000 in revenue and has RM17,500 in costs: Profit = RM25,000 β RM17,500 = RM7,500 Β· Margin = (RM7,500 Γ· RM25,000) Γ 100 Β· Profit margin = 30%.
Be consistent about which costs you include. Gross, operating and net margin each use a different cost base.
Formula and assumptions
Profit Margin = ((Revenue β Costs) Γ· Revenue) Γ 100Profit margin expresses profit as a percentage of revenue, making businesses or periods of different sizes easier to compare.
